Impacts

We are here because public budget systems need to work for all people, not a privileged few. We work side-by-side with those who have long been denied a ‘seat at the table’ to advocate for transformational change in their lives and communities.

We put the “public” back into public finance.

Budgets are the government’s most powerful tool for meeting the needs of its people and ending extreme poverty. Yet, in many countries around the world, information on how public money is managed is not made available and budget decisions are made behind closed doors. This often means budgets are skewed to benefit those at the very top while critical services such as access to healthcare, education, clean water remain under resourced, underspent, and poorly implemented. However, when people have the opportunity to participate in spending decisions and hold government to account, the result is fairer budgets, improved services and transformed lives.

Our Global Network Impact

In over 120 countries, IBP works to ensure communities have the knowledge, advocacy skills, and political access to influence government decision-makers in ways that lead to fairer budgets.

In all regions of the world, we are seeing progress towards greater openness, new civil society voices being heard by those in power, and improved services for people who rely on them most.

We did not go to school but with time, we’ve developed experience and knowledge of the sectors. IBP unleashed our power by teaching us fiscal advocacy and mostly, by providing day to day support on building us as a social movement.

Change that impacts people’s lives
