Beyond Disclosure: Making Fiscal Governance Work for People in Asia and Pacific

Tuesday, 13 October 2026

2:00 – 3:30 pm Bangkok Time

Room 2-210A, Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC)
Bangkok Thailand

Hybrid Event

As Asia and the Pacific face climate shocks, rising debt and fiscal pressures, who can see, influence, and hold governments accountable for public finance decisions is increasingly urgent. Drawing on Open Budget Survey 2025 findings alongside IMF Article IV and other assessments, this session explores the tension between gains in fiscal transparency and slower progress on public participation and independent oversight—which is needed to ensure spending delivers real impact on areas like climate resilience and equity. Using a fiscal ecosystem lens, panelists from civil society, government, and development partners will discuss the political, institutional, and relational dynamics that enable or constrain accountability. The session is part of the Civil Society Policy Forum (CSPF) held during the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group.
