Hybrid Event

As debt burdens mount and fiscal space narrows, countries faced pressure to borrow responsibly while safeguarding public services. Opaque borrowing and weak oversight heightened fiscal risks and eroded public trust. This 90-minute hybrid session showcased tools to diagnose and close accountability gaps in debt management, including IBP’s newly launched OBS Debt Accountability Module, WFD’s PDMAT 2.0, and IMF guidance on legal frameworks. Panelists discussed pathways to prevent future hidden debt in Senegal and lessons from Kenya’s efforts to strengthen institutional frameworks, offering practical strategies for ensuring debt is transparent, sustainable, and accountable.
