The launch featured presentations from representatives from the Ministry of Finance and the Auditor General’s office. Godson Aloryito, IBP’s Program Officer in Ghana, shared the OBS 2021 results & recommendations. Dr. Alex Amankwa-Poku, Head, Budget Development & Reforms from the Ministry of Finance shared the ministry’s strategy to deepen transparency and accountability. Mr. Lawrence Ayagiba, Dep Auditor-General, shared insights on improving the oversight function of the Audit Service.
During the launch, the Ministry of Finance made commitments to resume and broaden the scope of in-person consultation with civil society organizations during budget formulation, and pilot mechanisms for citizens’ feedback during budget implementation. Ghana’s Audit service also committed to partner with civil society to disseminate audit findings for citizens, to demand accountability from duty-bearers, and work with the media and civil society to popularize the use of the Citizenseye App to report and rate public services.
