The IDPMS was established in 1988 to work with local governments (Panchayati Raj Institutions, or PRIs) on rural livelihood programs in Karnataka. The organization initially worked to implement programs that were financed by the Dutch government. In 1999 the Netherlands terminated its support, and the IDPMS changed its name from Indo-Dutch Project Management Society to Initiatives for Development through Participation of Marginalized Sections, keeping the same acronym — IDPMS. At the same, time, it also restructured to focus on two key areas: developing products for the poor and development-related research. Through the Partnership Initiative, the IDPMS will work on monitoring the procurement and distribution of medicines at the local level through an expenditure tracking methodology. Read IDPMS’ Profile
