Nonhlanhla Mathibela

Junior Researcher

Nonhlanhla joined International Budget Partnership South Africa as a Junior Researcher in April 2020. In this capacity, she provides support to the research team by gathering information which relates to metro budgets, service delivery standards and institutional arrangements. Nonhlanhla is also involved in the primary data collection and analysis of informal settlement resident’s information during the Asivikelane campaign.

Before joining IBP, Nonhlanhla worked as a research intern at the Centre for Affordable Housing Finance in Africa under the Research and Market Intelligence division. Her areas of focus include human settlements policy analysis, Local Economic Development and people’s interactions with the housing asset. Through this work she has authored an international conference paper.  Nonhlanhla holds a Master of Urban Studies degree in the field of Housing and Human Settlements and a BSc (Honors) in Urban and Regional Planning, both from the University of the Witwatersrand.  Nonhlanhla is passionate about the development of African cities and she believes that her work experience and recent involvement in the Commonwealth Association of Planners Young Planners Network will help shape her vision for human settlements development in Africa.
