Unveiling our new Advisory Council

Today, the International Budget Partnership is pleased to announce the creation of a distinguished Advisory Council consisting of seven eminent leaders hailing from policy, philanthropy and global development fields.

Advisory Council members will serve as ambassadors for the organization, fostering thought partnership and facilitating connections to new networks. They will help us to expand our sphere of influence, tap into new philanthropic resources, and enrich the efforts of our Board of Trustees and staff by bringing different perspectives to the table to maximize our impact.

The launch of the Advisory Council complements an intensification of our commitment to make public resources work for all people and be more locally rooted in the changes we seek. With new leadership, and as we formulate a fresh strategic direction, this marks an ideal moment to broaden our base of allies and resources. After a quarter century of impactful work, the establishment of this Advisory Council signifies IBP’s dedication to innovate, grow and harness fresh energy to propel us forward into our next phase.

“We are at an inflection point globally as structural inequality threatens to undermine the promise of democracy to deliver for all. We need renewed resources and partnerships to meet today’s challenges and deepen our impact,” said Ana Patricia Muñoz, our Executive Director. “We are thankful for the Advisory Council members´ support during this journey because we cannot do it alone.”

IBP’s Advisory Council includes:

  • Joseph Asunka – Chief Executive Officer, Afrobarometer
  • Tim Dixon – Co-Founder, More in Common
  • Robert Greenstein – Founder and President Emeritus, Center on Budget & Policy Priorities
  • Gara LaMarche – Leader in Residence, Colin Powell School of Civic and Global Leadership at the City College of the City University of New York and Senior Advisor, the Raben Group
  • Ruth Levine – IBP Board Liaison to Advisory Council and Vice President of Just Societies and Chief Learning Officer, The David and Lucile Packard Foundation
  • Julie McCarthy – Co-Chief Executive Officer, Nature Finance and Founding co-director of the Open Society Foundations’ Economic Justice Program
  • Smita Singh – Former Chief Strategy Officer, Open Society Foundations and Founding Director of the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation’s Global Development Program
  • “The launch of the Advisory Council comes at an exciting time for the organization,” said Ruth Levine, our Board Vice Chair and Board Liaison to the Advisory Council. “As IBP seeks to drive systemic change in how public resources are managed, the Advisory Council will be key to securing the critical support it needs to have impact at scale.”

The International Budget Partnership works globally to make public resources work for all people. We believe that traditionally excluded communities must be able to influence how public resources are raised and spent and drive solutions to make public finance systems more accountable and equitable. Together with our allies globally, we generate data, advocate for reform, and build the skills of people so that they can influence decisions that impact their ability to thrive.
