The Public Budget and Maternal Mortality in Mexico: An Overview of the Experience

This paper offers an overview of maternal mortality in Mexico and an analysis of Fundar’s budget work on maternal mortality since 2002. In its evaluation of the extent to which public resources have been adequately allocated to maternal mortality reduction programs, Fundar finds that public funding of maternal mortality programs continues to provide insufficient health services. Fundar also concludes that the methodology used to study maternal mortality has been successful.
